a game about manning the IT department

by your friends at Jumping Skunk Games

                                      for Global Game Jam 2020

                                           About the Game
                                           --------------

The Wizard of OS tells the story of a regular IT support-slash-admin guy,
trying to keep things running smoothly and putting out fires where they
               pop up.
However, the role of IT Infrasturcture and Support is never noticed if
things go correctly - and as such, your budget has been downsized.

Your Users will inevitably run into problems with their equipment, and
should they lose their temper, they will attempt to fix the problems
themselves, and file a User Error Report with upper management, who will
further slash your budget out of sheer annoyance. Of course, all repairs
will also come out of your budget.

Oh, and you need to keep the servers operational as well, since they are
what keep your company running. Failure to maintain the servers will result
in furhter cuts to your budget.

How long will your IT department survive?

                                        About the Developers
                                        --------------------

Kasper Lindström provided sound effects, miscellaneous design,
inspiration, motivation and opinions during game development.

Jussi Lipponen created all graphics assets and the music loop, and
processed the sound effects to fit into the game engine.

Patrik Lindström WTFed his way through learning GDScript on the
fly and eventually put together all logic in the game.

Petteri Saarela provided some last-minute menu buttons - THANK YOU!

                                        About the Development
                                        ---------------------

This game came into being as our way of trying out the Godot game enigne.
Once the theme of "Repair" was announced, it took us less than 15 minutes
to decide on making a game about IT problem solving, or manning a helldesk.

The original game was supposed to play out like some kind of an RPG,
however we soon found out that Godot was not a quick thing to learn on the
fly, so we streamlined the design as we went along. :)

Day one of development was spent coming up with initial graphics assets
and trying to figure out how to make anything on screen respond to input.

Day two, Saturday, was spent trying to figure out how to get the physics
engine stuff working right, and fiddling with particle effects, lights and
a myriad of other little things.

Day three, Sunday, with less than 8 hours to go was when the game actually
started taking shape - we gained failure states, a game name and a proper
               level layout.

Or at least that's how our tired brains remember it - the commit log on
Github will probably tell a similar tale. :)

We're confident that had we had more experience with the engine we'd have
been able to deliver on the original idea - as it stands, the game has
all the features required in a video game, but we had no time to spend on
balancing or proper playtesting. At the same time, given that we had no
experience working with Godot going in, it's rather amazing that we managed
to make something that worked in the first place.
